PRESS-RELEASE: The public is informed that His Excellency the President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi has declared 2023 / 2024 an extreme agricultural drought year following poorly distributed rainfall.
As a result, the Government has resolved to make provision for:
- 30 % livestock feed subsidy for roughage, concentrates, mineral supplements, botulism vaccine, and vitamin supplements for beef cattle and small stock effective from 01st July 2024 to 31st January 2025.
- 30 % subsidy for production feed for smallholder farmers in non-traditional commodities (dairy, piggery, aquaculture, apiculture, and poultry) effective from 01st July 2024 to 31st January 2025.
- 50 % for acaricides and antibiotics for the control and treatment of animals for amblyomma (bont tick) and dermatophylosis (senkobo disease) in Chobe, Okavango, Ngamiland, and any other area that may be declared infected effective from 01st July 2024 to 31st January 2025.
- Subsidy for equipping and reticulation of water for livestock in unused government or community boreholes in communal areas that have serious water shortage, with priority given to hotspot areas effective from 01st July 2024 to 31st January 2025.
The subsidized feed, feed ingredients, and veterinary requisites can be purchased at the Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) branches and other registered and compliant local private suppliers.
Guidelines for implementing the subsidy with details can be collected from the Ministry of Agriculture’s district offices nationwide.
