PRESS-RELEASE: The Ministry of Agriculture informs the farming community, its stakeholders, and the general public that, on Tuesday, 14th May 2024, His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, the President of the Republic of Botswana, is scheduled to officially receive a consignment of breeding cattle and dairy goats bought from Australia.
The consignment, which consists of different breeds of beef cattle and dairy goats, will contribute to the achievement of the Government agenda of increasing the national herd and improving its genetic merit.
This initiative is geared towards the sustainable development of our livestock sector and the facilitation of an export-led industry.
Accordingly, the arrival of the Australian breeds will bring genetic variability to the local gene pool and complement last year’s consignment of 161 breeding cattle procured from the United States of America.
Furthermore, the importation of breeding animals is in line with the objective of the recently launched Thuo Letlotlo program, which aims to develop a sustainable, inclusive, and diversified livestock sector.
